One day Bel Esprit discovered a curly-shaped thing on the side of his head.
“Hey, look what I found!”
“Hey, neat! What is it? What is it for?”
Didn’t you see Bel Esprit shrug his shoulders? Like in your mind’s eye? “I don’t know,” he admitted.
Eventually Bon Amie discovered that she also had one, then two! They both had two of those strange shaped contraptions! I am not sure if they they ever really knew that the sounds they were always hearing came in through those curly-shaped oddities although they did sometimes turn their heads towards a particularly distinctive noise. And sounds there were! How they ever managed to sleep in such a noisy environment is more than I can imagine, unless it is just because they had never known anything different. There was always something going on; gurglings, rumblings, explosive noises that startled them and really loud crashes and bangs that plainly made them jump. There was one noise, however, that they always loved to hear. It went something like this: lub-dub…lub…dub…lub…dub…

Bon Amie liked to curl up as close as she could to the comforting sound and it always soothed her to sleep. Bel Esprit however was was a more wirey type and didn’t care to lay around listening to lullaby music. He was always eager to explore. He would spend as much time as possible darting this way and that, grabbing at this, examining that. It was a fascinating place that he had discovered and he acted as if he didn’t think he would have enough time to learn all he wanted to know between those ‘nuisance” lulls of sleepiness that continued to keep plaguing him.
